Morocco, 45 thousand illegal emigration attempts halted in 2024

RABAT (MOROCCO) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – According to the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior, a total of 45,015 irregular emigration attempts have been blocked since the beginning of 2024, thanks to the resilience of border and coastal surveillance systems. According to data from the authorities in Rabat, 11,323 attempts were blocked last August, mainly in the prefecture of Mdiq (near the city of Ceuta) and 3,325 failed attempts in the province of Nador (near the city of Melilla), involving different nationalities. Similarly, the security services dismantled 177 criminal networks active in migrant trafficking, while 10,589 migrants were rescued at sea and were able to benefit from support in terms of assistance, medical support, accommodation and guidance, in the context of border management.

In addition, in 2024 Morocco will still have to face increasing migratory pressure, a direct consequence of the prevailing instability in the Sahel region and the permeability of the borders. A situation aggravated by the ruthless exploitation of criminal networks involved in migrant trafficking. In this context, the Rabat authorities are calling for continuous coordination between all partner countries to deal with the phenomenon of irregular migration.
